Florida head coach Billy Donovan calls out instructions during a third-round game against Pittsburgh in the NCAA college basketball tournament in Orlando, Saturday, March 22, 2014.

Florida Gators men’s basketball coach Billy Donovan has been deemed the best college basketball coach in the land by the fine folks at ESPN.

Donovan, who once almost ended up at the helm of the NBA’s Orlando Magic, edged the likes of Kentucky’s John Calipari, Michgan State’s Tom Izzo, Duke legend Mike Krzyzewski and former boss Rick Pitino of Louisville.

Part of ESPN’s reasoning, “Before Donovan, the Gators' basketball history was almost nonexistent…. Florida [now] is one of the nation's elite college basketball programs. It is a perennial recruiting destination, a near-constant winner. Florida is, and always will be, a football school. Attendance hasn't always been great. But Donovan has been so relentlessly good that even the most stubbornly disinterested alum can't help but sit up and take notice."

I certainly disagree with the

I certainly disagree with the writer of the unnamed article. Sure UF is a football school, but UF is also a basketball school.
Two National Championships and countless tournament runs. I'm sure the "fine folks" at ESPN got under the TU writer's skin on this one. Maybe BD will rub it in again next year.

Once you're in that rarified

Once you're in that rarified atmosphere w/ Coach K, Izzo, Cal, and Pitino, # 1 is kinda arbitrary. I do like their reasoning that Billy MADE us a BBall school.
Love me some Billy The Kid.

Whoohoo, go Billy!! I

Whoohoo, go Billy!! I totally agree that he's an excellent coach. It just makes putting up with Misschump even more galling. Since when does the University of Fl. think it's OK to have a losing system? If UF doesn't make it to a bowl game and Foley doesn't fire him - both of them should be fired by the president.
