Start of Florida game against Idaho delayed due to lightning (7:33 p.m. update)

Posted: August 30, 2014 - 6:43pm  |  Updated: August 30, 2014 - 7:39pm

UPDATE: At 7:33 p.m. there were several close lightning strikes near Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, which pushed the start of the game between Florida and Idaho back to at least 8:17.

If lightning is detected within eight miles of the stadium before the game, there must me a 30-minute delay (without any more lightning or the clock starts over), plus a 10-minute warm-up and a four-minute pre-game.

The last game affected by lighting was in 2007 when the Florida-Western Kentucky game was called off with 8:23 remaining in the fourth quarter. There already was a 62-minute delay for lightning earlier in the game.
